You don't need to go to active school to shoot your own video,
0:02
how you don't have to be a master of the stage or do you
0:13
Hi, so welcome. It's Richard Butler here,
0:15
director of education at PL or me part-time actor part,
0:20
video producer and funny guy. Come on in, come on in.
0:25
I was just working on a video script and doing some editing. Now,
0:29
some popular questions I hear a lot is Richard,
0:34
do I have to get on video or Richard? You make it seem so easy.
0:39
I wanna be like you, can you, you coach me to become a YouTube star? Well,
0:44
I can't. Well, okay. They don't really say that, but you know,
0:47
I have delusions of grandeur. The guy has a dream, right? Anyways. Anyways,
0:52
anyways, you should come on focus.
0:54
I think the two things that people fear most like are doing tax returns and
0:57
getting on video.
0:58
And I want to show you the three myths and show what you need to do.
1:02
But first let's do a little bit of coaching here. So pull up the chair,
1:06
pull up the chair, come closer. What?
1:07
You have a fear of how many people are actually watching you live.
1:10
You're gonna always take two, right? You only get better by doing it again.
1:15
And again. I tell you if I showed you one of my earlier videos, Hey.
1:19
Thanks for your interest in NLP. My name is Richard Butler or Richard,
1:22
but to success, coach.com. Oh, well.
1:24
Hold on you didn't uh, come here for coaching session, right?
1:27
Or to see one of my older videos,
1:29
but you came here to get some practical tips on how to take P or content and
1:34
make a video of it. And hold on before you ask. Yes,
1:37
you do have to get on camera. Why? Well, because as a coach,
1:41
people want to get to know you and, you know,
1:44
see who you are and what you have to say. And as a coach,
1:47
there's no better way to connect with your audience than on video.
1:50
So let's start with myth. Number one,
1:53
you need top quality equipment to record videos. This is an excuse. Okay.
1:57
People always say, I can't get on video until I have a pro camera,
2:01
but you have a smartphone right. From five years. Well, that's all you need.
2:06
Well, yeah, but what about the microphone? Well,
2:08
honestly you can record great sound from the headphones that came with your
2:13
phone, assuming they have a mic. So, uh, something like this you could, uh,
2:17
actually use and you could just wrap it around the back of your head like that
2:22
and make sure that is here. So it's not too intrusive.
2:26
You could get a lapel mic, which is what I'm using now connected to my iPhone,
2:31
or if you're doing tutorial style videos. Well,
2:33
you may have seen me using these,
2:35
how I tell you these come in really handy because in my part-time job at a
2:38
hamburger joint, I can say, ah,
2:39
can I have extra fries there and a large milkshake, please. That's a joke.
2:43
But the, these headphones are actually really good for tutorial style videos.
2:47
I tell you don't underestimate the smartphone that you have because it's really,
2:52
really good. One essential piece of equipment that you need is a throwing star.
2:56
Now, hold on a second. That's not a throwing star.
2:58
This is actually a tabletop tripod that well,
3:02
I can put on my tabletop. Now this is your standard type of screw here.
3:05
You can Mount your webcam on it.
3:07
Or what you can do is you can buy something like this.
3:10
And what this allows you to do is to screw this onto the tripod.
3:14
And then it has an expand expanding thing. Uh, take a of go term, expand,
3:19
expand, expanding thing where you can actually put your telephone. Now,
3:24
what I would suggest though is to get different angles is a tripod.
3:28
And this is, um, an extendable tripod. And it was my very first tripod,
3:32
which I love. I love you tripod, but I've since upgraded to a better model. Um,
3:36
so this one here, while it has things like it has spirit level here,
3:41
I can add this on here. So if I want to take landscape videos, uh,
3:45
I can do that or I can put it on like that. And I can actually,
3:49
if I can do it
3:54
And I can actually move this as well, if I wanted to put it at different angles.
3:59
So tripods are definitely useful. Why? Because you don't want, well,
4:03
if you remember from many years ago, the Blair,
4:05
which project that they were running and the camera was shaking.
4:09
You don't want a shaky effect like that unless you want a shaky effect because
4:13
you're making a horror movie, but I don't think you are anyway.
4:16
So what you wanna make sure is stability of your camera and iPod is essential.
4:21
Amazon have them maybe for 20, 30 bucks. So without a tripod,
4:24
your video is gonna be as jumpy as a, uh, well, I can't think of a good analogy.
4:29
Well, why don't you leave an analogy in the comments?
4:32
And the best one gets a free dinner with me in Barcelona, uh,
4:36
flight accommodations, airport transfers,
4:37
and any other additional costs are not in sorry.
4:41
The legal team told me I had to say that. Okay? So,
4:44
so far you have your tripod again, you don't need anything.
4:46
Fancy your smartphone, your headphones with a mic.
4:50
Now you need to find a quiet place where you can set up the camera,
4:53
always look out for distractions that might distract the viewer.
4:56
These six things will help you stay top of mind.
5:00
I can't believe that you can see my half empty or empty cup of coffee
5:05
there, but okay.
5:07
So you always want people to focus on you and you don't want them to be focusing
5:10
on something in the background. You don't need to build a whole set.
5:13
You don't need to get set designers in.
5:15
You can do everything in your kitchen or living room. Just dial up a little bit,
5:18
but don't forget. You could even use your laptop to start off.
5:22
You have a webcam on your laptop. You could use that. I started it with that.
5:26
And then I started upgrading and I've I've. I have too many cameras now I think,
5:30
but don't let the tech be an excuse. Now, myth. Number two,
5:34
you can wing it. Now, when you feel comfortable with being on camera, yes.
5:38
Perhaps you could wing it a little, but you know what ends up?
5:42
You end up rambling about things like the time I went, uh,
5:45
for dinner and saw one of the singers from, uh, you two,
5:50
and then we got the boss home, but on the way to the bus stop,
5:53
we actually stopped for a quick nightcap. Ah, man,
5:57
you see what happened?
5:59
I took my eyes off the script and script script.
6:03
What script Richard? Well,
6:04
you need to have some sort of structure to your video. In fact,
6:08
you need to have a structure. So yes, you should script out your videos.
6:11
So you know what you're going to say? And when now, why is this important?
6:16
Well, if you're succinct and say what you have to say,
6:18
people will respond better to your video.
6:20
And if they respond to your video comments or likes,
6:24
then this means your video may get more traction and more views.
6:29
They don't wanna hear ums and AMS. And uh, what was I gonna say next? Now,
6:33
remember, there is a transaction here,
6:35
your viewers pay with their time and we don't have any spare time to
6:40
waste, right? So don't let people feel like they spent their time and wasted it.
6:44
Thus, a script is essential. What do I do with the script? Well,
6:47
it might seem like a question that would get an answer.
6:50
Like you can stick it up your,
6:52
but of course that's not the answer I'm going to give you.
6:54
If you are doing alive,
6:56
you can have this script on your screen and casually look at it now and again,
7:01
but don't make it so obvious if you're pre-recording a video,
7:06
it's much easier as you can pause,
7:08
look at the script and then resume recording. Seriously.
7:12
It's not that difficult. Or you could get a teleprompter. Now I have this one,
7:16
which is a ago one now,
7:18
but you can also get software based ones like this one here on screen.
7:22
They really are a lifesaver.
7:25
And all of our videos are now done with scripts because it is so much easier.
7:30
It allows you to get your thoughts on paper. You don't ramble.
7:33
And if you make a mistake, you can pick up where you left off. But Hey,
7:36
if you've made it this far, do you,
7:38
might I give this video a like and subscribe and maybe leave a comment below.
7:41
It would really help us. And we would love it. Myth. Number three,
7:44
there are three myths. Actually, I didn't have a third myth. I just thought,
7:48
well, you know the number three hooks people. So, ah, hold on.
7:53
That reminds me of something really, really important.
7:56
The hook when starting your video, you need, need to have a hook.
8:00
Now that's something that grabs people's attention. I mean,
8:03
which do you prefer today?
8:05
I'm going to show you how to create a video from PLR or three
8:09
minutes that stop you from according videos or do these three things to make
8:13
better videos. I mean, number two and three are better, right?
8:17
So hook your viewers in with something an interesting, without it being spammy,
8:21
of course, and then deliver on that promise.
8:24
Now let's get back to the whole plr.me content part of this video,
8:28
you can take any plr.me item and use it as your video script. Ben,
8:33
like I did, you can tell people for more info,
8:35
they can download the PDF you created in step one.
8:39
Now let's summarize a couple of things.
8:41
I really think the best thing you can do is start off with Facebook lives.
8:45
Why? Because you have to just do it and there's no take two or take three.
8:50
The more you do this, the more comfortable you will get in front of the camera.
8:55
Now, once you are comfortable doing these things,
8:58
you can then start recording longer pieces of content.
9:01
Plus using Facebook live. You don't need any special editing equipment.
9:06
And to be honest, just get on camera, get onto Facebook. Live,
9:10
just get used to it. And someday you can be a YouTube star are like me, baby.
9:15
Talk to you very soon. Take one, take two. Oh my God.
