Getting Started in the Personal Development Market

One of my members asked:

“I’m interested in creating a website that offers inspirational and personal development content.  I have been thinking about this for quite some time, but I am not quite sure about the steps I need to make it happen.

I don’t currently have a website and I’m limited by finances so I definitely want to make this site successful. I would also like to draw up a business plan to show my wife so she can see that something like this can be successful. Are there any directions you can point me in to make this happen?”

-Carl

Carl, I think you’re on the right path and I understand the need to draw up a winning business plan for your wife, especially in the economy we’re in. Dreams and plans are great, but action and implementation is even better.

The biggest suggestion I have for you is to really know what you want. Figure out your hyper-specific targeted niche, do lots of competitive and keyword research, then offer something valuable that no one else can match.

As you know, the personal development market is HUGE. And yes, there’s a lot of competition, but it’s also a billion-dollar market. The focus isn’t to get a slice of the billion-dollar pie at the expense of someone else, that’s the scarcity-mindset at its worst.  Instead, aim for an abundance-mindset so you can share in the prosperity. After all, the market is big enough for everyone to succeed, especially if you have the proven product and marketing techniques at your disposal.

I’ll use PLR.me as an example. Of course, PLR isn’t a new concept and there are literally thousands of other PLR vendors out there.

There’s the cheap n’ free market that’s known for its junk-quality. There’s the status-quo market full of PLR content that doesn’t really rock the boat, then there’s the high-flyers who offer something that no one else can because of some secret competitive edge.

If you were to compare PLR.me to the others, we’ve got articles and affirmations in a variety of formats (txt, rtf, pdf), wallpapers graphics, and professionally designed worksheets and checklists. Then there’s the unmatched bonuses like the website analysis review and the monthly mastermind calls. This is unique to us.

Now relate this back to you and your business…

  • What is it that you can offer that no one else can? What’s unique about your products or services?
  • What makes your life and business experiences worthy of attention? How can you differentiate yourself from the has-beens and wannabees in the market?
  • How can you position yourself as the go-to guy? Why are you the expert?

Reflect on this, then draw up your plan. Forget about creating a 50 page document. Words won’t get you anywhere without action. A single page mind-map would do, just as long as the plan is rock-solid and you focus on timely implementation.

To your success,

The 6 SEO Secrets I Learned When Google Slapped Me In The Face

We all have a love-hate relationship with Google.

One minute we’re on top and breathing easy… the next minute we’re buried (and barely breathing).

This is especially true if you try to game the system by using blackhat tactics or buying links.

Google doesn’t like that and is even willing to penalize themselves. Google Japan was caught buying “reviews” from bloggers and slapped themselves by reducing Google.co.jp’s Page Rank from a 9 to a 5. Brutal. Well, it’s against the rules and even Google lives by it.

Feeling the Slap

I only talk about “whitehat” SEO strategies because they work without getting the Google slap. And boy do I know what it feels like being slapped. It stings.

About 7 years ago I felt the shockwaves when Google completely de-listed several of my sites. My traffic went from 100k down to nearly nothing overnight. You can guess what happened to my sales.

You see, I was inter-linking all my sites in a daisy chain on every page of my site trying to boost my rankings.  It was so obvious (and so stupid) that Google unleashed a knock out punch that left me down for the count.

It took weeks before I got listed again, and I was one of the lucky ones!

Cracking the SEO Code

These experiences have taught me something. Actually, it taught me six things that ended up making it into my SEO cheat sheet.

My SEO cheat sheet made its way into one of my PLR.me Mastermind Coaching Calls called: “6 Things You Must Know About SEO” and it was a rockin’ success.

These Mastermind calls are only for PLR.me members and any PLR.me member knows that these mastermind calls are pure content. I don’t hold back because these calls are for paying clients only. It’s an awesome perk that’s worth the cost of membership alone.

With that said, I just released my SEO mastermind call from the vault for the general public. If you want to learn from my costly mistakes and generate thousands of visitors fast, grab a copy and begin implementing straight away. You’ll thank me later.

To your success,
