The BIG mistake that keeps even smart people BROKE

I got an email from a client today that really irked me...

Here's what she said:

"I'm a writer and I also have 4 affiliate websites, all 4 months old or younger, and still not making any money. I'm growing a list but I don't know what to do with that list! What to offer etc.

I love writing articles, but it's not getting me to where I want to be financially...I'm not good at the marketing side of things and there is a lot of competition these days."
-- Karen Coomier

Yech. There are a few reasons why that bothers me.

But first, it's not Karen's fault and it's not yours either. I blame the lies, deceit, and utter garbage that the so-called "goo-roos" proclaim.

PROBLEMO NUMERO #1:
Multiple Sites With ZERO Focus

Okay, so here's the thinking of some big name dudes...

"Make $1/day from one site, then churn out 100 sites,
now you have $100/day."

Urhm. Really?

Because I've seen some of my clients who have hundreds (upon hundreds) of sites, and they're making a collective sum of pennies per day. (Yippie! Smash the piggy bank and
buy me some bubble gum!)

Here's the TRUTH:

It's not about the number of sites you have, and it's not even about the number of visitors you get (hey, I've had profitable businesses with just a hundred visitors a day)...

What MATTERS is how you IDENTIFY with your visitors and how you show 'em why you're the coolest of the cool.

PROBLEMO NUMERO #2:
I Don't Know What To Send To My List

Again, I blame the "goo-roos"... because their example of "relationship building" goes something like this:

Email #1: Pitch
Email #2: Pitch again (harder)
Email #3: Pitch again (even harder)

...then a month later, they recycle the same emails and pitch the same garbagio again.

That's NOT how you build a relationship and definitely NOT how you make a raving fan of your work.

Want to know MY email marketing secrets?

  • Share stories, tell your secrets, explain your mistakes, and get personal.
  • Invite and encourage replies to your emails
  • Forget about the "hard" pitch, instead build honest, realistic expectations
  • BE YOU. Just write as though you're taking to your best buddy or your trusting girlfriend.

Pretty simple right?

Okay, that brings me to the BIG MAMMA mistake that keeps even SMART PEOPLE BROKE...

PROBLEMO NUMERO #3:
'Outsourcing' the Marketing

Ack... nails on a chalkboard to me!

Now I know EXACTLY where this thinking comes from. It all stems from self-esteem issues. Inferiority, self-doubt, and limitations.

Except, that's all a distracting illusion.

How do I know?
Because I was once where you are today.

I did EVERYTHING I could to avoid "selling"... graphics design, HTML/CSS, float around
aimlessly on forums.

I was AFRAID to sell. I wasn't confident enough, smart enough, "cool" enough.

And instead of LEARNING how to market, I convinced myself about UTTER LIES...

"I can't do this stuff," I thought.
"It's just not me," I felt.
"I should just outsource the marketing," I believed.

And the funniest thing was that I had no problem selling other people's stuff.

Ask me about my closet full of Apple products or my organic foam mattress and I can get you all giddy with excitement, wallet in hand... (my mattress rocks, btw!)

...but when I talked about my own site and products?
Naw, I got all sheepy and shy.

Been there, done that, and overcame the DISMAL results.

You see...

We've been conditioned at a young age that...

  • Marketers = sleazy scumbag shysters
  • Marketers = dumb product peddlers
  • Marketers = salesy shysters

Except that's NOT true.

That may the experience with some marketers (goo-roos, I'm lookin' at you!), but that is
NOT what works, and it's definitely not something you can proudly tell your kids about.

HERE'S THE SOLUTION:

Marketing doesn't have to be a HARD sell, but it DOES have to get personal.

That means selling YOURSELF and your personality.

It's called: PERSONALITY MARKETING.

  • That means writing honest reviews, even telling people NOT to buy a product if it's not right for them.
  • That means recording face-to-face videos to identify with your core audience.
  • That means sharing personal stories and experiences via your blog posts and emails.

And when you do that, you can put a link to your products (or your recommended affiliate products) below the good stuff and "sell without selling."

It works.

When you identify with someone's core, they'll begin to know, like, and trust you...

...and that leads to lasting relationships, raving fans, and sales.

So now it's time for you to go do some MARKETING! :)

Best business advice I've ever received...

Here's some of the best business advice I ever got:

"If you're not connecting with your followers and customers, then you're not doing your job. A very good entrepreneur puts relationships ahead of profits because he knows that stronger relationship naturally leads to healthier profits."

Ain't that 'ze truth.

While everyone else is getting impersonal and distancing themselves from their people, you can actually get CLOSER to your crowd and give 'em more of what they want.

It's never failed me. Nope. Never.

But look at the self-professed "goo-roos"... do they even ask to know your first name anymore, let alone personally answer your emails and get to know you?

Of course not. Not cool.

No wonder their refund rates are as high as 65%(!!)

There is a MUCHOS better way... one that builds loyalty, respect, and a rabid fan base.

Here are two simple examples:

  • The most successful YouTube stars interact with their audience, take requests, answer comments, and even mention specific fans in their videos. The big networks can't even muster the kind of captivated audience some YouTubers have!

  • Gary Vaynerchuk recorded 1,000+ videos about food and wine pairings on his Wine Library and Daily Grape sites. He took audience questions and interacted intimately with his base. He looks DIRECTLY into your eyes when you watch his videos... and he doesn't aggressively "sell" you anything.

How can YOU connect with your audience and build a solid relationship?

Let me count the ways...

  1. Record face-to-face videos (or at least PowerPoint videos)
  2. Host as many free workshops and teleseminars as you can handle
  3. Send a physical "thank you" card in the mail to new clients
  4. Ask for feedback and implement your customer's suggestions
  5. Email your list frequently and encourage people to reply
  6. Answer your customer's emails
  7. Encourage blog comments by simply ASKING for them
  8. Send random freebies and gifts
  9. Run contests and giveaway prizes
  10. Tell stories and GET PERSONAL

HERE'S THE BOTTOM LINE...

People buy from people they know, like, and trust. If you aren't gettin' personal with your peeps, then someone else will and your customers will flock to your competition.

P.S. I just released a series of Niche Attack reports that delve DEEP into the PSYCHE of specific niches. It's some cool ninja stuff.

Other people charge for this sort of thing,
but I'm not like other people. :)

I hit a nerve...

Yesterday, I told you about how you can become your own WORST EMPLOYEE...

Well, the flood of replies tells me that I hit a nerve. :)

Most people agreed agreed with me that they haven't been giving their business the RESPECT it deserves and that my simple 3-4 item checklist strategy was bang on...

Quick recap about my checklist method...

Execute just 3-4 tasks everyday that will DIRECTLY bring home the turkey bacon.

But there was one stand-out that decided to CHALLENGE me:

"Your checklist idea may work for you, but how am I supposed to know what tasks to focus on? And how am I supposed to outsource the rest? It's easy for you because you're the guru with outsourcers to do the work for you. What about the little guy like me. I can't afford that."
-Joe Chesney

Joe, I appreciate you reaching out and encouraging me to clarify!

Firstly, I'm no guru, nor am I interested in ever becoming one.

I'm all about getting you the results you deserve and interacting with you directly (that's why I actually answer my emails... try getting through to a "guru"!)

Secondly, your checklist is all about focusing on the tasks that directly result in either:

  1. More highly qualified leads entering into your funnel
  2. More highly qualified joint venture partners you can work with
  3. More highly targeted products to sell to your existing customers

It's about converting a lead into a customer, then a customer into a RAVING FAN.

That's it. Anything outside of that core area isn't mission critical for you to devote your day to.

So let's say you sell an exercise home study DVD course. You can be the stock boy or girl
and fill boxes, print invoices, and make daily trips to the post office...

Or you can focus on recording more videos about why your DVD rocks, contacting potential JV partners to host a webinar for their list, or creating additional products or training to sell to existing customers.

That's just the tip of the iceberg, but you can see what I'm getting at: DO THE STUFF THAT MAKES YOU PROFITABLE.

And as CEO of your own company, you need to focus on the big picture stuff...

  • Mailing stuff isn't the job of a CEO
  • Creating graphics isn't the job of a CEO
  • Tinkering with WordPress isn't the job of a CEO

And that brings me to the issue of outsourcing...

Outsourcing does NOT have to be expensive and you don't have to take on full time staff. Not at all.

  • You can have a logo created for 5 bucks at Fiverr.com.
  • You can have WordPress installed or 5 bucks at Fiverr.com.
  • You can have trained pros take on simple tasks at FancyHands.com

And once you've gotten that far, it's time to get back to the stuff that brings home the dough.

This isn't difficult. The difficult part is being your own boss... setting your own deadlines...
and having the DISCIPLINE TO GET STUFF DONE.

No more excuses, it's time to EXECUTE.

Carpe Diem,

Ronnie Nijmeh

P.S. You can't change and stay the same. Impossible. If you REALLY want to succeed in your biz, then you have to do something differently.

Worst employee, ever...

Listen up. This is IMPORTANT...

There's a BIG PROBLEM trending.

You see...

Over the past several weeks, I've answered several hundreds of emails from my clients (and you may be one of them), who told me all the reasons why they need their business to work...

Health issues, home foreclosures, family challenges, pressure from the Mrs., and more.

Those reasons are very real and they're great motivators to keep you focused.

But here's the BIG PROBLEM:

RESPECT.

Yup, good ol' R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

That's what I see trending in each email I get... A lack of respect for your OWN biz. It's an EPIDEMIC in the online world.

Let me give you an example...

Say you're stuck in a dilbert cube all day and your boss tells you to get stuff done.

What do you do?
You get stuff done.

And what happens when you don't?
You get FIRED.

Simple CAUSE and EFFECT, right?
Don't do your job = Don't collect your pay check.

So you get the job done because you RESPECT the pay check and you RESPECT the fact that your boss as the ultimate authority to cut your bread money... so you put in the hours and effort to earn your keep.

WELL HERE'S THE THING....

When YOU ARE THE BOSS, you set the rules and create the work environment. You create the schedule, the goals, and the income potential.

But instead of respecting authority, you have to learn how to respect YOURSELF and your own to-do list.

YOU need to get stuff done - whether you have an hour a day, or ten hours a day.

And what if you don't get stuff done?
You effectively become your WORST EMPLOYEE.

No sugar coating here... it's the truth.

Now the best part is that you can easily go from worst employee to EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR...

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:

Focus on a short daily checklist of 3-4 items  that will BRING IN THE MONEY, then IMPLEMENT IT!

It's easy to be swept away by a lack of time and focus, but when you have just 3-4 things that are directly going to bring home the turkey bacon, it's a lot easier to get things done without overwhelm.

And it's those 3-4 things that will build the BIG momentum, get the cash flowing, and
get you to respect your own business.

You CAN succeed. But you have to WANT it.

Do you want it?
